BIOEROTIC LOVE LETTERS: an invitation

As a postscript to/continuation of the Festival, Chris McClarren has issued the following invitation to play the Bioerotic Love Letters Game:

To better smash the internalized oppressive behavior of just focusing on human beings and liberate our inherent and most marvelous tendency to fall in love with everything and anything, this game is played by expressing your erotic experience of and love for anything and everything - praying mantis, burping, sun rays, red-headed woodpeckers, moons, farting, wildflowers, laughter, hair, your big toe - any phenomena or creature that inspires you. Express yourself with words, images or a combination. Do a group love letter to something. I often ask friends to write these kind of letters for special events and share them. I turn them into zines and/or paste them around the city.

Chris intends to play this game every day from now until Friday September 14th , and she invites the Surrealist world at large to play along with her.

To include your own Bioerotic Love Letters in the Festival album, please send them to us no later than midnight on Friday September 14th.

What a load of larval affrontery...

First, if you are interested in what "bioerotic" means to me (I may not be a situationist wanker so perhaps you won't be interested in what i have to say but i am a known lunatic and I am the one who wrote up the game and gave it the name) I would ask you to see "erotic" in a very "expansionist" sense to mean not just what turns you on sexually but what turns you on in the infinite ways we are capable of.

You'd have to get into the mindset of a raving slut for every nook and crany of the cosmos.

"Bio" added to erotic is really unnecessary but I added it anyway to draw attention to expanding "erotic" beyond anthropocentric tendencies...

"bio" is nudge, a wink, a lure to write love letters that are not simply reflective of the experience of your wanker or your bollocks but inclusive of your whole - however you see that...your mental, physical, emotional, spiritual, fantastical responses to what reaches in and satisfies you in such a deep way that that experience becomes the measure of your satisfactions....

To expand even further, you could also allow yourself to enter the world of something other than yourself and write a love letter as that...to whatever your imagination unfolds as turning that something on...

enter the world of the dialogue with your "imaginal" friends....

What prevents you from becoming the trees and speaking to the winds of your lust for their strokes across your branches?

What prevents you from becoming the wind and speaking to the clouds of your lust for molding them into infinite forms before they melt into invisible orgasms under your touch?

best of wishes to you too,
- chris mcclarren

I've often felt that photographing nature was a way of making love to it, certainly taking possession of it in a virtual way, which is one of the layers of meaning of person-to-person lovemaking.

And art produces altered states that last longer than orgasms. In my own experience, improvising jazz and photographing in a form-rich environment produces a state of arousal similar to the early stages of sexual arousal.

Yes, Joel...i feel the same way. Making collages, improvising musical magic with my friends, dancing, even by myself, i feel like i am making love and being made love to...and the arousal is like the tiny exquisite pains of engorgment that happen with sexual arousal - the filling of the body with creative/sexual juices. And definitely lasts longer, but is just as demanding at times in it's satisfaction, it's desire to peak.

This fascinating discussion supports my theory that the more surrealist one is, the better one is at love-making. (which could be another discussion, for the bravest.) Yet what about when a surealist makes love with a non-surrealist? Is that why we contine to take photographs, make collages,etc... because it is MORE erotic, more awakening, than actual love-making?
